Where is the Conference?

We are proud to announce the First Annual IGAAR Conference to be held April 9-10, 2010. The conference will take place at Nova Southeastern University’s main Ft. Lauderdale campus, just minutes away from the beach and Ft. Lauderdale’s beautiful downtown district. One graduate student will win the IGAAR Annual Graduate Student Research Award and a $500.00 cash prize for research excellence!!

When is the Deadline for Paper Submission?

Papers must be submitted through this webpage no later than February 21, 2010. 11:59 pm, Eastern Standard Time. Submit your paper by clicking the button above, labled "submit your paper now" on this webpage.

 

Who is Eligible to Submit Papers?

Graduate students and newly credentialed PhDs from across the globe are encouraged to submit a paper for consideration. New PhDs are those who have earned their degree within the last five years, i.e., no more than five years prior to the conference date. All submissions will be subject to blind review. Students and academics from every discipline are encouraged to submit a paper for consideration. Only graduate students will be considered for the research award and the $500.00 cash prize.

 

When Will I know if My Paper was Accepted?

Selected authors will be notified on or before March 1, 2010 of their acceptance, providing them with amply time to coordinate their schedules and solidify their travel arrangements.


What is the Conference Theme?

Paper submissions must be limited to one of the following topics:

  1. The Nature of Genocide
  2. Definitional Difficulties in Classifying Genocide
  3. Child Soldiers
  4. Environmental Degradation and Genocide
  5. Torture and Human Rights Violations during genocide
  6. Ethnic Conflict and Genocide
  7. Spirituality and Genocide
  8. Philosophical and / or Ethical Accounts of Genocide
  9. International Law and Genocide
  10. Pedagogical Approaches to Teaching Genocide

 

What are the Guidelines for Preparing a Paper for Submission?

 

Guidelines:

  1. All papers must be prepared for blind review. No information identifying the author can be included in the final submission. One document (either .doc, .docx, or .pdf) must be uploaded through this webpage. The first page of the article must include only the following information:
    1. Name
    2. University Affiliation / City, State or Country
    3. Graduate Standing or number of years in possession of a PhD
    4. Paper Title
    5. Abstract of no more than 150 words
    6. Contact information, including email and phone number.
  1. A paper of 3000 words or approximately 12 pages in length. Papers beyond 3500 or less than 2500 words will not be considered for the conference.
  2. Papers must have 1 inch margins and should be double spaced throughout (except citation information).
  3. Papers should be prepared in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition.
  4. Papers will be limited to 15 minute presentations.
  5. Papers must be the product of the author’s own work and cannot have been presented or published elsewhere.
  6. Simultaneous submission will not be considered.
  7. Author’s that have been selected to present their papers at the conference will be required to sign a release form stating that they have (1) authored the text, (2) that it has not been presented at another conference, and (3) that the paper has not been published elsewhere.

 

What is the Conference Registration Fee?

Conference registration is $25.00 for graduate students and $35.00 for newely credentialed PhDs.
